Welcome to Calvary Church with Skip Heitzik. We're so glad you've joined us today. During election seasons,

we often hear how great a Christian president would be for our nation. However, faithful Christian

leadership in the home can have an even greater impact when godly men fully embrace the role that

God has given them. In this Father's Day message, Pastor Skip highlights the impact of

godly fathers who lead with love. I do want to begin this message by saying happy Father's Day to you, dads. I have a special message,

a Father's Day message for you, though not about earthly fathers, but about our Heavenly Father.

I'm going to do a different twist on this. You know, I notice that when it comes to mothers and Father's Day messages,

preachers like to on Mother's Day tell moms how awesome they are on Father's Day, hit a little

hard and say, Dad, you ought to be doing better. And so I don't want to do that. I did not give

any Mother's Day message, but I do want to give a Father's Day message.

And let me give you a little background.

Father's Day developed by a woman on Mother's Day.

Let me explain.

In 1909, Sonora Dodd was sitting in church listening to a Mother's Day message.

It was a good message, but her own mother had died quite young. She was raised by a very loving,

sacrificial dad, and so she thought,

this is good, but I think we should celebrate Father's Day as well as Mother's Day.

So that idea caught on.

A number of people started doing that.

Eventually, in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson established June, the third Sunday in June,

as the time we celebrate Father's Day.

In 1972, President Nixon mandated it into federal law as a federal holiday.
