Joe Atkins, PhD. She is executive director at Abode Contemplative Care for the Dying in San Antonio,

Texas. We will be talking about her book, Signposts of Dying, or amongst

other things, she details the many facets of deathbed visions. Well, Martha, thank you very much

for coming onto the past lives podcast. It's really kind of you to give us your time. Glad to be

here. Thank you. Could we start off if you tell us about your background?

Sure. So I started out as an undergrad in psychology and I got a degree,

a psychology degree and worked as a child life specialist in the states. I don't know if they

have that in England or not. The states, it's a group of people who help with psychosocial

support for kids and families when the children are sick. I worked a lot with children who were

dying and their siblings. And then my brother

died quite unexpectedly and my professional and personal worlds came together in a way that I

didn't expect. I worked at the hospital for a little while longer and then realized I needed

to have a break. So I went back and got a master's degree in counseling.

The last class I took as part of my master's degree was a group, a class on children and families.
