Before we get started, I recently did a talk in a middle school classroom with 5th and 6th

graders in Harlem.

And it wasn't really a talk.

We all read a book.

We read this book, Ghost Boys, which was very good.

And we had a conversation about it and it reminded me that young people know about the

They have thoughts about it.

They have ideas.

They have opinions.

What we have to do is help create an entrance for them.

And what the book did that was so interesting is it was a really great entrance that created

a platform for us to talk about, an issue like police violence and safety and communities.
