Today we'll hear Marvin's 2018 interview with Kay Coles James.

James is currently president of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank based in Washington, D.C.

But she actually had a very long and distinguished career before that.

Among other posts, James was Virginia's Secretary of Health and Human Resources and President

George W. Bush's Director of the Office of Personnel Management, OPM.

She also founded the Gloucester Institute.

That's a leadership development center for African Americans.

And along the way, she wrote several books.

Hi, Marvin.

Hi, Jill.

You first interviewed Kay back in 2013.

What was your takeaway from that conversation? Well, I always had a lot of respect for her, and I had a respect for her honesty and willingness

to tell the truth, even if it upset some people.

So back in 2013, she was clearly irritated with the Republican Party establishment and a lot of conservatives for essentially ignoring, in many ways, the African-American community.

And she didn't hesitate to say so.

Can you give me some examples of that?

Well, just that when at election time, there'd be all this

moaning among Republicans that the black vote would be 98% or something for Barack Obama.
