Today we'll hear Marvin's 2015 interview with John Dickerson.

Dickerson has spent most of his journalism career covering Washington politics and is the new host of 60 Minutes on CBS.

He started as a reporter for Time magazine and spent several years there as White House correspondent.

He also wrote for Slate before becoming political director for CBS News in 2011.

He hosted the Sunday morning talk show, facedaced the Nation, from 2015 to 2018,

and then did a brief stint at CBS this morning. Dickerson's mother was also a well-known

Washington television reporter. Her name was Nancy Dickerson Whitehead. He wrote about his

relationship with her in the 2006 memoir on her trail.

Hello, Marvin.

Hey, Jill.

I wanted to start by asking what prompted you to invite John Dickerson to sit down for an interview?

Well, we had had some correspondence over the years.

I tend to like journalists.

Very interesting people, but often not very nice people.

And John Dickerson impressed me as both a good writer and a nice person, which is rare.

Why do you describe him as a nice person?

Well, he grew up in very affluent circumstances. His dad had a lot of wealth, and his mom, Nancy Dickerson, was very well known as a female journalistic pioneer. And they did a lot of entertaining in their home in the Washington area with all kinds of politicians in.

And I had thought that John might have become

a little Lord Fauntleroy.
