Right now we're going to talk about the Lone Star series, the Battle for the Silver Boot.

Houston, Texas, American League West rivals now for many years.

This series started back in 2001 with Interleague Play.

As you cover sports here in the Metroplex, do you find people have a passion for the battle for the silver

boot? I do think there's a healthy rivalry between the two franchises, obviously, that

ramped up even more during the World Series run a few years ago for the Rangers. The actual

trophy itself, I'm not sure how much people really value that,

but it's a series that people pay a little closer attention to than others. And it's a cool

weekend for Major League Baseball in general in that they've set up many of, if not all of the

rivalries over the same weekend. Yankees and Mets played, Angels and Dodgers, et cetera.

So it's fun.

You know, it seemed one-sided for a while

until the Rangers got their World Series

and the Astros got a couple

and felt like things evened out for a while.

It is a good rivalry.

In a time period where the Mavs-Spurs rivalry is kind of faded and, you know,

Cowboys Eagles rivalry has been strong, but when you're talking about an in-state rival,

the Cowboys and the Texans rarely play, so it's probably our best local in-state rivalry,

and I do think people get excited for it.

And people were excited Friday when the series started because the Rangers were coming off a

series win.
