What comes to mind when you think of menopause? For many, it’s caricatures of older women, fanning themselves and being irritable. Not only does menopause often get made fun of in the media, its symptoms and treatment have long been dismissed or even outright ignored by clinicians. Today, we speak to Professor Rebecca Thurston of the University of Pittsburgh about all the myths and misconceptions that surround menopause. What does the science tell us about why menopause occurs, what does healthy menopause look like, how can we alleviate symptoms, and what possible treatment options are available?
