So I'm going to start today's session with a very lightweight question.

What does quantum physics tell us about the relationship between consciousness and reality?

You know, it's only 1 p.m. where I am in California, so I have not even had my first bong hit of the day.

The nature of quantum consciousness and reality. What is quantum?

Quantum? Oh, boy. Well, first of all, let's talk about what quantum really is as opposed to what we always talk about.

We tend to want to talk about quantum as quantum weirdness, quantum entanglement, quantum measurement, quantum measurement.

But there's a lot of quantum that isn't weird at all.

It's in fact very natural, very simple and beautiful.

It has to do with just looking at waves in interesting ways.

And so when it comes to trying to understand the quantum, more or less the lesson is,

is that everything is a wave.

We can talk about wave particle duality, but I don't

actually think it's terrible to say, look, we know it's all waves. So more or less, the story

of quantum field theory is the story of waves in some medium that's hard to describe, interacting,

colliding with each other, propagating and interacting.
