It's March 13, 2022, outside of a McDonald's in Moscow.

Luca, a man in his 20s, looks at the long line gathered in front of the restaurant.

The scene is reminiscent of the day McDonald's first opened in Moscow 32 years ago in 1990.

But today the mood of the crowd is very different.

Back then, the Russian people were excited to get their first taste of a McDonald's fast food burger.

Now they fear that this will be their last chance ever to enjoy a Big Mac.

McDonald's has announced that it will temporarily close all of its locations in Russia

due to the invasion of Ukraine.

That decision has left a lot of Russians upset and angry, including Luca,

who doesn't want McDonald's to shut down and he's prepared to make a statement.

When Luca finally reaches the front of the long line, he takes out a pair of handcuffs

and chains himself to the door.

Members of the crowd cheer.

Luca takes out his phone and starts recording his active protest.

Soon a member of the crowd, a reporter, makes her way over and starts asking questions.

Sir, sir, why did you handcuff yourself to the door?

I do not want McDonald's to close. I'm protesting the shutdown.

You think McDonald's is worth fighting for like this?

Yes.

Closing down McDonald's is an act of hostility and violence against the Russian people, an act of violence.

Doesn't that seem a little extreme?
