It's approaching midnight on November 9, 1989 in East Berlin.

A teenager named Ahem runs down the street, clutching a hammer and chisel in his hands.

He's out of breath, but nothing will stop him from completing his task.

Today Ahem is about to take part in a historic event.

Ever since 1961, the Berlin Wall, which split Berlin and Germany into east and west,

has stood as a symbol of division between the Soviet block and the western world.

Travel beyond the wall from the east has long been restricted,

but calls to tear down the wall from politicians, humanitarians,

and even rock stars have grown in recent years.

Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has heard the message loud and clear,

and now the wall is coming down. Ahem is excited to take part in the historic event.
