Summary
It wasn’t unusual for her to be out that late. Long shifts, quiet roads, the kind of drive where nothing ever really changes. That night felt the same—until her car started acting up just outside of town.
At first, it was small. A hesitation in the engine, something easy to ignore. Then it cut out completely, leaving her alone on a dark stretch of road with no one around for miles. She called for help, popped the hood, and waited.
That was when he spoke.
He was already there—close enough that she should have heard him approach, but she hadn’t. He didn’t ask many questions. Just stepped in, looked things over, and told her to try starting the car again.
But when she got out to thank him, there was no one there.
