Summary

Romans 6:1-2 - What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Because identity plays a huge factor, a huge role in how we live in the world.

0:37.5

For example, if you think you were a failure and that is how you perceive of yourself and the way that you are in the world,

then your actions are going to correspond to that belief, right?

0:51.0

I've said it many times, our beliefs dictate how we live in the world.

0:55.6

Well, Paul, in answering the question about whether or not we should continue sinning so that we can receive more of God's

1:04.8

grace gives us an answer that's based on identity.

1:09.8

Let's look at Romans 6, verse number one. He's just told us that when sin increases, grace increases all

1:18.5

the more. And so he asks a question that surely somebody is thinking.

1:24.0

He says, what shall we say then?

1:25.4

Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

1:29.6

And here's Paul's answer.

1:31.5

By no means. Now stop for a moment before you read ahead. What's he

1:36.3

going to say next? You might expect him to say,

1:38.7

sin is wrong or sin is opposed to God, or sin is the direct opposite of what God intends for our lives.

1:48.6

You might expect any of those answers, and those would be true. But those are not the answer the

1:54.4

Apostle Paul gives. He says by no means we are those who have died to sin.
