It was a warm and sunny early evening on July the 11th, 2002 when a mother in Hertfordshire

answered her phone and heard the cold, sinister and terrifying voice of a stranger. The unidentified

man did not introduce himself. Instead, he got right to the point. He said, you know your daughter,

the blonde one? Well, she's

a bit tied up at the moment. And in that instant, this woman's world collapsed. Her 26-year-old

daughter had just been attacked and was lying, bound and traumatised, having just endured a brutal

rape. The callous phone call was the rapist's way of taunting the family, a final twist of

cruelty in an already horrific crime.
