David is being chased like an animal through the mountains, hiding in caves, hiding in rocks.

And when he writes Psalm 57, that's where he is, hiding from Saul in a cave.

And yet, in Psalm 57, the picture that we get is not of David as the animal being chased, but rather as his enemy

All through scripture, lions are very frequently a picture of the enemy. And lots of Bible characters face their lions.
