back.

I had a really interesting conversation that I hope you'll all enjoy with a guest that

I'm so happy to have met and to have had on the show.

Lily E. Hirsch is a musicologist and author.

She's written a whole bunch of books on subjects ranging from Jewish music and Nazi Germany

to the application of music and American crime prevention to more recently a wonderful

book on Weird Al Yankovic called Weird Al Seriously and just this year a new book called

Can't Stop the Girls Confronting Sexist Labels in Music from Ariana Grande to Yoko Ono.

Most of those subjects go well beyond the kinds of things that I usually talk about on

strong songs which I thought made her an ideal guest for the show.

So I reached out and back in February we hopped on a Zoom call and had a far-reaching

conversation about a bunch of different topics.

I do want to say up front that while most of this conversation is nice and light we do

occasionally get into some heavier stuff topics like the use of music as torture or the

abuse and harassment suffered by women in music.

So some kind of tough topics are interspersed in there though like I said it's just a small

part of the overall discussion just figured that I would mention that up front.
