Summary

In June of 1863 two US Army wagons were secretly loaded with 26 50 pound gold bars in West Virginia and sent on a mission across Northern Pennsylvania with instructions to avoid rebel troops at all costs- the gold was needed at the Philadelphia Mint in order that Federal troops could be paid , But after a series of mishaps the wagons became lost in the mountains and according to one survivor, they were ambushed, and robbed killing all 8 men who had not left to get help. In 2018 the FBI applied for a permit to dig for they believed to be the missing gold bars. 0:58.0	Let me describe the picture I'm looking at now which brought me into the story
1:02.0	The first thing we see is a yellow excavator positioned in a cleared area in the woods snow covers the ground
1:09.0	About a dozen men more than half of them were in blue jackets with FBI clearly showing on the back are standing near the excavator
1:16.0	So we know they're looking for something and the first thought is that there are crime teams sending the dig up what probably a body right
1:24.0	This picture is one of about a half a dozen pictures accompanying a news website in Pennsylvania at the date is 2018
1:31.0	And now the headline FBI searches for tons of civil war air gold at remote Pennsylvania dig site
1:38.0	If that doesn't capture your attention few things could of course the first question is what is the FBI doing searching for gold in Pennsylvania

1:51.0	Most legends of buried gold are just that legends which always seem to peter out after they're put to the reality test

2:29.0	Nearby neighbors believe they might be digging for gold it's believed that long lost treasure may be buried in that area
2:36.0	WTAG spoke with members of the Elk County Historical Society who say they believe it's just an old wives tale
2:43.0	The member didn't want to go on camera but told WTAG that there is no historical evidence that there may be treasure in the dense run area
