Our text today again comes from Romans chapter 2, verse 1 through 4, reading from the new living translation.

Notice there are these words. Paul writing to the church at Corinth, the church at Rome, and he says,

you may think you can condemn such people, but you're just as bad. And you have no excuse. When you say

they're wicked and should be punished, you're condemning yourself. For you who judge others do these

very same things. And we know that God in his justice will punish anyone who does such things.

Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God's judgment

when you do the same things?

Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?

Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? This is the kindness

Kindness, remember, has a mission.

And the mission is to turn people from their sin toward God because it shows them the kindness.

Another word for kindness is the word mercy. Mercy means the loving kindness of God.

And so when people are exposed to God's mercy, it causes people to focus on him. And a heart that is going to be blessed is a heart that is gracious, a heart that is filled with gratitude that is saying,

God, I know I didn't deserve this, but you gave it to me anyway.

Or God, I did deserve that bad stuff and you didn't give it to me.

Lord, I thank you.

And I want to see the one that stopped judgment from coming to me.

And so it turns people toward God.

Now, I want you to think about this because it's so easy to look at the world through these eyes of where you're doing exactly what Paul was talking about to these Christians at the church in Rome.
