about in hike. There's something different for everyone, but for me, I love hiking up

to firefighters. These beautiful views always make for a great payoff when you get to

the top of them. Today's guest is the New York State Director of Forest Fire Lookout

Association. We'd like to welcome back, Louis Rankin.

Hello, thank you for having me back. I appreciate the opportunity to talk about firefighters.

So, for some of us, we know they're there. We go up and we visit them. Quite honestly,

it might not even give me much thought to how they're why they're there. Could you give us

a little bit of a history on the fire towers, starting with maybe with the fire of

our association? Okay, so what happened is a group of hikers, just like yourself, who

love to go to the top of the mountain and find a fire tower and enjoy the views from there.

They were finding that as they got to some of these fire towers, they were not in good condition.

And so, they got together in the state of Pennsylvania back in 1990 and they said,

what can we do to try to save some of these fire towers that we're seeing?

And they became a 501-C3, the all-volunteer organization,
