Today, a year out from the guitar world cup,

what's life like for the workers making it happen?

In about a year, the tiny golf state of Qatar will play host to millions of football fans,

and it's spent a decade getting ready.

Journalist Pete Patterson was there recently.

So I was in Doha in September and October this year,

and it's a city that is continually changing.

Every time I go back, this new buildings, new development, new infrastructure,

it's compact, but it's full of skyscrapers, it's full of six lane highways,

and it's now full of seven brand new stunning stadiums for the world cup next year.

Thanks to huge reserves of oil and natural gas,

Qatar is fabulously rich and has spared no expense transforming itself into a footballing paradise.

Each of these stadiums seems to have a theme.

One of them is essentially built partly out of a shipping containers because it's right near the

port in Doha. One of them is built like a traditional nomadic tent, beautiful design

up in the north of the city, and the world cup final will be held in Lusail Stadium,

which is the only stadium that's not entirely finished yet, and it's built like a giant golden

wicker basket. There's no doubt the stadiums are stunning.

Football fans who watch the tournament next year or visit are going to be impressed,

but Pete has spent nearly a decade reporting on this tournament, and for him, it's not so simple.

When I see this glittering city and these stunning new stadiums, I think about something different.
