And every day, I have been lucky to hear from people all over the country.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has lived many lives in American politics.

As first lady, she was always highly visible, but she wasn't always loved.

Mrs. Clinton, instead of your new book being the issue, you have become the issue.

I feel that she's the power behind the throne.

I think she's a very aggressive woman and she's overly ambitious.

How did you get in this mess with your whole credibility as being questioned?

Oh, I asked myself that every day, Barbara.

Helping her navigate that attention ever since 1996 was Huma Abedin, Hillary's most loyal aide.

She started as an intern and then rose rapidly through the ranks of the White House,

and was at one point described as one of the most powerful women in Washington.

To the Clintons, Abedin became indispensable.

But to the rest of the world, she was an enigma.

I was an advanced person at the White House.

Your job is to stay out of the shot.

And I carried that very seriously.

I never wanted to be the story or part of the story, and didn't you know I want to be in the picture.

Abedin, a Muslim American, was a source of fascination to the press.
