Welcome to another episode of The Homestretch w/Adrian Durant, where we meet and have conversations with some of the most inspiring and elite athletes, coaches and sports personalities. Winning a World Championship is a dream of many athletes, our today's guest has won not one, not two but 7 World Championships out of which she has won 5 World Championships consecutively. Brittney Reese has been the dominant women’s long jumper over the past decade with four world outdoor and three world indoor gold medals to her name. She also has won an Olympic Gold and Silver medals at 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games respectively. Reese is truly an elite athlete; she has proved time and again that she is still a force to be reckoned with.

In this interview with Brittney Reese we will talk about her childhood and when she got into track & field. We talk about her early days in high school and university where she also played other sports and finally became professional in ling jump. Reese is ranked with some elite track and field athletes including legends like Marion Jones and Jackie Joyner-Kersee, beating her personal best time and time again. She also shares her views about that. Apart from the exceptional sports person, we will also get to know Brittney Reese as a person. Reese talks being a voice for youth, making history and her future plans.

You know, the things that you've had to overcome to achieve the success that you had a little bit about you before we get started for those who aren't average track fans.

You are indoor American record holder and a personal best in the long jump is 731, which is ridiculous. I mean, it's

Feet in 11 inches. That's almost 24 feet. Yes, that's crazy. That's crazy.

Close, close, close. Yeah, one of the best long jumpers ever, one of the best athletes, period. I mean, look, and when I look at it, you have what the ninth best mark, but it's like five of those are from the 80s. So I'm kind of like, and like the other four like Russian. So I'm like,

We don't really too much. No, but so in my eyes, you're probably the best.

So so how did you get started with track? What got you into it?

So the way I got started in track was I think I was in the seventh grade. It was more so of me following other friends.

Because I was playing basketball and a lot of my friends decided they wanted to run track. And I was like, well, I do a two since I'm going to do it.

My grandfather at the time was big on sports. So he thought it was a great idea for me to go out there. Now, when I think I had my first practice and we were running. And I was like, yeah, I'm the same for me.

So my grandpa at the time brought me right on back. So he's like, dog, you know, quit. He's going to be good for you for best part, helping stay in shape. So I just stuck to it after that.

So, oh, so it was so for you at the time, it was just like, okay, let me do it. But it was still mainly about basketball basketball.

So best ball at the time was my first love. And you know, basketball season ends once basketball season and tracks, he starts. So for me, it was just more so just doing something and then trying to stay busy, basically.

Okay, okay. And so you're doing track, you're doing basketball. When did it start shifting to lie? Okay, I think track is going to be the main one.

It didn't it didn't really shift for me until so I went to a community college and for basketball. I played two years of community college. It didn't shift until after a community college.

Basically, yeah, because I do both the whole time. So you were good at both through high school. Yeah, you're in your high school's Hall of Fame, of course.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I was good at both. Yeah, I was good at both. And I went to a community college to run to play basketball. And basically, it was my last year of playing basketball. I could have left. I did sign a sign of track scholarship out of high school.
