And so Mike, you know, the home stretch podcast, what we're all about is talking to amazing people, you know, high world class athletes.

0:42.1

We want to hear your stories. We want to hear about, you know, what you have to overcome becoming the best in the world at anything is not easy and you've been a world champion multiple times.

0:52.3

And so I know it took a lot to get there and you may not often get the chance to really tell your story how you want to. And so tonight, hopefully we could dig into that a little bit and hear a little bit more.

1:02.8

So how'd you get started and track? You're from Missouri, right?

1:06.7

And from Missouri, I went to a small school called Berkeley High School. We had a track coach. He's pretty elite. His name was the Rod Stacks and the man used to come to like all my basketball games, all my football games trying to recruit me to my track, but I never would come out there like I was like, I'm good playing basketball.

1:26.4

I had my scholarship already, you know, picked out where I was going and then I got hurt and I was like, I was missing out on basketball. I thought I ended up going out for the track team.

1:37.4

1:53.4

Okay, because the junior, so I was in, you know, the 11th grade. Wow, you had it. You weren't running track at all then.

1:59.4

I wasn't running track at all. No, no track at all. So just basketball. I was getting recruited by everybody in basketball and football is actually signed a letter of intent before my three years to go to the University of Miami.

2:11.4

I ended up breaking my ankle at homecoming and I missed the whole season of basketball and football down in my three years. So it was, it was bad. So I ended up going out for the track team because I was healthy then.

2:25.4

And when I tell you that first year, I was out there getting smoked.

2:29.4

This is outdoor track.

2:31.4

This is outdoor track. We didn't have indoor imagery.

2:34.4

Yeah, that's right. It was outdoor track. So I'm not taking smoke just running relay and, you know, getting to know the guys.

2:42.4

I know one of the captains on the team was Willie Moore, Jr. Pretty Willie. The guy sings, let your body down. He was the fastest guy I've seen.

2:51.4

Yeah.

2:52.4

Yeah. So he had the state record 10, 25 and stuff like that. So I'm like, man, all these guys out here. But I was running like 11 old, 9, 11, 11, 1.
