The case that would eventually be called the Hollywood vampire murder started out with just a mention in the Hollywood Homicide Report.

There were a few paragraphs next to a photo of a 30-year-old Ukrainian woman named Yanna Kassian.

There was a photo of Yanna, smiling. She had long, beautiful hair and dark eyes. Yana had given

birth to a daughter just three weeks before she was murdered. According to the homicide report,

Yana had been tortured and mutilated. But to truly understand what happened to Yanna, we have to go back

a few days. Back to May 26, 2016.

Yana's mother, 60-year-old Olga Cassian, was scared.

Olga had recently flown to Los Angeles from her native Ukraine.

She had come to California to spend time with her daughter.

Yanna had just given birth to her first child, a daughter

named Diana. Olga was worried about Yanna's boyfriend, 35-year-old Blake libel. Yana and Blake's

relationship had seemed like a Hollywood fairy tale. They met early in 2015 and after a whirlwind

romance, Yanna was pregnant.

She and Blake were madly in love and living together.

When Olga first got to town, she thought that her daughter and Blake seemed super happy.

But after their daughter was born, Blake's behavior changed.

Suddenly, he and Yanna started fighting a lot more. In fact, it had gotten so

bad that Blake, whose family was an uber wealthy family from Toronto, had rented Olga an apartment

nearby. A few days earlier, Yana told her mom that she needed to concentrate on her relationship
