This rejoicing is no ho-hum rejoicing.

This is no just kind of calm whistling on the way home, being glad that dinner's there.

This is with all of the energy of the infinite God's heart and with all of the energy of the

infinite God's soul.

I think it's easy to assume that God's love is steady but subdued, that he's more patient

than passionate. But that's's more patient than passionate.

But that's not how this text talks.

John Piper shows us what it means that God's heart is for his people.

This seminar was originally delivered at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Wednesday night, March 11th,

1992.

There are three promises in these verses, and they get increasingly better. So let's just take

them one at a time and make sure we highlight them.

The first one is in verse 40, I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I ask, in view of all the painful things in the world, how can that be? What does that mean?

And what are some other texts? He will not turn away from doing good to his people, his covenant people.

And I think the answer is very simple. It means he will not turn away from doing them good or putting it positively,

he will keep on doing good to you. God never does anything except good to his covenant people.

Period. No exceptions. I think that's what that means never the question is what what about disasters i mean

that's another way of asking what i've asked here i think when god says i'm going to bring disaster upon you

does that mean he stopped doing good to them and here's's my answer. For those who are part of the new covenant, it's a new covenant promise. This is not a promise made to physical Jews. This is a promise made to those who are in the new covenant. That's always a remnant flow in the big flow of physical Israel.
