The gospel comes with a command, believe, or better, I think translated, trust me, hope in me, fall, let go, watch me. Fall. Let go.

Watch me.

Trust me.

Now that's good news.

I don't naturally think of commands as good news.

But when the command is, trust me, rely on me, stake everything on me,

that changes how I think. I'm Dan Kroover. In this episode of Light and Truth, John Piper shows us

how the gospel's call to believe is a call to stop striving and start trusting.

How can the gospel be good news if it puts demands on sinners?

Aren't demands burdens that make us hopeless instead of hopeful?

Hmm.

The answer to that question is, it can be good news for God to put demands on us if the demands are good news.

If they are the kind of demands

that you hear when you hear them as good news.

And I think all the commands of God are good news.

Now how can that be when we are sinners? And my favorite picture that I have in the

chapter is, because I had this experience one time, not on an ice face, but on a rock face.

I picture a person rock climbing, and I remember doing this, and the rock is sort of sloping like this,

and only as you move sideways, it got steeper, and from my perspective, I couldn't see that,

so that this looked really manageable here, just go right up that, went down any ropes or anything.
