Everyone loves a good story and a good storyteller.

But there is no storyteller like the Lord Jesus,

and there are no greater stories told than the ones Jesus shared.

In this study, spiritual stories, we consider the parables Jesus told and their

application to us. These are truly the greatest stories ever told, and the Lord has something

he wants to say to you through them. Let's join Scott Pauley now.

Occasionally, when you watch some media production that's very lifelike,

they will say something like this.

The following events are fictional and not based on actual events.

Well, I want to say to you today, the following events, I believe, are not fictional.

We've come today to a story that Jesus told, commonly referred to as a parable, but I believe it to be a parable that is really more than just a parable.

It's the one parable that uses real names that refers to actual men and real events.

And yet, I want to discuss it with you because it is one of our Lord's stories.

It is given in story form.

And this narrative, I think, is one of the most powerful Jesus ever gave.

It is the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke chapter 16.

Remember, he's the second rich man in Luke 16, Jesus addressed.

We studied the first in our last study.

And in the context here, the rich people among them and the covetous among them didn't like what

Jesus was saying. So Jesus takes them all the way to eternity. To put it in perspective, Luke 16,

verse 19, there was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously

every day. In other words, he was dressed brilliantly, he lived flamboyantly. He had it all.
