Our in-depth look at the Empire Strikes Back continues. This is the soundtrack show. Oh, Oh, no, no. Welcome back to the soundtrack show. I'm your host David W Collins and today we're continuing our look at Star Wars

episode 5 the Empire Strikes Back a film from 1980 with a film score by John

Williams. Last time we looked at the beginning of the film which takes place on the planet

Hoth. Today we're going to be focusing mainly on the middle of the film which sees our

characters split into two separate

storylines. Han, Lea, Cheubaca, and C3Pio on the run from an imperial fleet of

star destroyers and all of the musical adventures that that brings,

while Luke Skywalker is in the swamp of De go-ba

with a wise Jedi master named Yoda.

Besides taking a listen to the fantastic music,

we'll also take a listen to even more cues that didn't make the cut of the film, or some cues that were changed.

First, we're not quite done with Hoth.

There are a couple of fascinating moments where music was omitted

or swapped with other music that provides even more insight

into the filmmaker's process of fine tuning the tone of this film.

After looking at all of these moments together,

we'll really see just how much thought went into the music in each and every sequence of empire.
