In recent days, the Republican Party's eager embrace of Donald Trump's authoritarianism and contempt for the rule of law

has become more blatant than usual.

Republicans have joined him in attacking his criminal trials as illegitimate.

Those who are auditioning to be his running mate are

saying they wouldn't have certified his 2020 loss, and many Republicans are backing him

up in his refusal to commit to respecting the 2024 election outcome.

Tom Nichols, a staff writer at the Atlantic, has been writing about this deterioration regularly.
