Joseph Roy Methany was born on March 2nd, 1955, and, according to the sources, neglected by an alcoholic father who was killed in a car accident when Joseph was just six years old, and a mother

who was never around and worked

double shifts to make ends meet. According to Joseph, he was sent off to live with various

other family members on a number of different occasions in what was described as, quote,

foster-like arrangements. Despite her hard work to provide for her children, Joseph would later claim that his mother had died.

But according to his mother, Joseph was an above-average student, polite, kind, and had a good childhood,

saying, quote, if he was neglected, it was his own fault. It was a pretty good home. At the age of 18, Joseph

joined the United States Army where, if you asked his mother, he served his time in Germany.

If you asked Joseph, he served a tour in Vietnam where he served in the artillery unit

and was introduced to heroin. As far as the records say, America's involvement in Vietnam, by the time Joseph joined,

had already ended.
