In telling the story of Jeanette Lough,

it becomes difficult to discern between what is factual

and what was an invention of the film studios that

made her a household name. Jeanette Lough, formerly Janette Clorinda Lobb, was born on October 9th,

1906 in Orophino, Idaho to a father who was a farmer, barber, violinist, and first-generation

American born to Danish parents, and a mother whose family

hailed from Norway. The family, which included two more children, later relocated to Otterdale,

Minnesota, and later, Wadena, Saskatchewan, where their father could open up his own barbershop.

In the middle of their family's moves, an 11-year-old Jeanette managed to get her first role

in a theatrical production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and, by the age of 16, was a lyric

soprano with a leading role in an operetta called Treasure Hunters.

The following year, the family moved once again, this time to Portland, Oregon,
