Welcome to Manager Tools. Today's show, The Coaching Dilemma, part one. Here we go. We're going to talk about coaching today. We've named this the coaching

dilemma. A lot of folks ask us at conferences and individual conversations,

right? I only have a limited amount of time.

Whom should I coach? Right? That's the question we get all the time. What if I got a week

performer? Don't I have to spend time with him or her getting them up to speed?

Yeah, right.

Or what do I do when the time I spend with a week performer

cuts into my time with everybody else?

Yeah.

All good questions.

The time thing is big.

People ask about the time thing, right?

I don't have enough time to do this.

And people, I think managers are fearful, right?

And yet what's interesting is when they really get into it,

they're fearful of things that really in their minds are not related to time as much.

The question is a good one because it gets right to the issue of how can I make my team more productive, which is part and parcel, it's part and parcel of what

managers do.

And there is not enough time to get, you know, to spend on managing.

Everybody tells us that all the time, right? I'm sorry Mark, I'm a working manager.

Right. Yeah. So if you're asking yourself this question, who do I spend my time with my top performer,

or we perform or whatever else?
