The Buddha used one word for mine called Mano,

and he used another word for a mind called Chita.

Mano is the mind that is associated with verbal thought.

It's associated with volitional actions.

It's associated with ditty or the interpretations that we add onto life.

All the explanations, the rationalizations,

the justifications for our actions.

Every time we turn experience into thought we are in Mano and there's a very famous

famous line the Damapada which is kind of the condensed teachings of the Buddha and the

opening line is Mano Pablo Gama, Dama Manoseta Manomaya. So that means it's literally translated very often into something like we are

what we think. But really you know you can't translate the

language of the Buddhist time which was every word meant so many different things.

It's as if every word in his language is like our words love and

freedom which carries so many associations and meanings.

we live in a virtual reality constructed by thought

that is very different from the real world outside of us.

This observation the Buddha's making is pretty much about the mind that creates thought.

Then there's this second word chita,

and that doesn't mean verbal thought.
