And this week, we're going to be talking about the 2023 film The Blackening, directed by Tim Story

and starring Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, and Dwayne Perkins. In this film,

a group of friends' 10-year reunion to celebrate Juneteenth takes a turn for the worse when they

find themselves at the mercy of a killer who's obsessed

with board games. If you're new to our show, Brian and I are going to have a spoiler-free

discussion at the top. We'll talk about the background of the film. Then we'll take a quick break.

You know, for me personally, Juneteens is kind of like a relatively new thing I've learned about. I know like Biden signed it into federal law to make this a holiday like two,

three years ago back in 2021.

I'm kind of surprised we didn't learn about this in school growing up,

but have you been aware about it for a while?

No, I was not aware of Juneteenth until Biden signed it into being a federal holiday.

So, yeah, and we should probably explain it for, I'm sure there are Americans who still don't know what it is.
