Summary

In the wake of another unfortunate flare-up between Elon Musk and President Trump, Scott Ott quotes The Washington Post as saying that Musk “failed” during his tenure as the director of the Department of Government Efficiency. As of this posting the National Debt Clock shows about $550 BILLION dollars saved, or nearly $5,000 in waste saved per taxpayer. That’s just under a million dollars per MINUTE. DOGE certainly could have done worse, but could they have done better… SO FAR?

But Stephen Green, they did point out some things which I thought

happen if a guy like Elon, not that there's anybody like him, had more than 135 days,

1:10.2

had the opportunity to devote themselves long-term to the process that it would take to make the federal government more efficient.

But there were several things they pointed out, and I'm summarizing briefly here, Steve.

Number one, they said he tried to change something that he didn't fully understand.

Number two, while there are many people who have dreamed of what would happen

if a good business person got into government and was able to run it according to government principles,

1:38.9

one of the things you need to understand when you're running a government agency

is there are no market forces that you have to deal with in business.

1:46.5

So there's nobody who's basically trying to kill you every day and you have to survive.

They didn't say it that way. I did. Number three, he erred in just cleaning house as much as he could, but not trying to find ways to support

the good government employees who were doing the best they could under the constraints
