Summary

THE EMILY SISSON SPECIAL

Emily Sisson is one of the greatest US Distance Runners of all-time, and she still has her best running ahead of her. At every level, Emily has been ABSOLUTELY dominant.

In high school, Emily qualified for the prestigious Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships all four years, a feat that has barely been replicated throughout history.

In college, at Providence College, Emily was a two-time NCAA champion, winning titles in the 5000m at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in 2015. She also set a collegiate indoor record for the women's 5000m with a time of15:12.22 at the Big East Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Emily turned pro in 2015 with New Balance and continued to train under her college coach, Ray Tracey, and has all the way up to the present day.

As a pro, Emily has set multiple American Records, including the American Record in the Marathon, which stands to this day. It was set at the 2022 Chicago Marathon, where she ran 2:18:29. Emily made the US Olympic team this past summer in the Marathon after placing 2nd at the US Olympic Trials in Orlando in February.

In today's conversation, Emily takes me through the biggest lessons and learnings from her successful career, her years in high school and how she's always fallen back on her love for the sport, her ambitions for the future, and so much more.

I absolutely loved this conversation and the opportunity to pick Emily's brain on so many topics. This one is packed with wisdom! Take the time to listen to it.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of the Running Effect podcast with Dominic Schleader.

0:07.1

I'm your host, Dominic, and today is a conversation that I've wanted to have, quite frankly, for a few years.

0:11.6

This is a person that I've looked up to since I first became a fan and a part of the sport of running.

0:16.8

Her name is Emily Sisson. I'm sure many of you guys are aware of who this is. She's undoubtedly one of the greatest U.S. distance runners of all time. She's still got a lot of her best running ahead of her. At every level, Emily has been absolutely dominant in high school. Emily qualified for the prestigious foot locker national cross-country championships all four years, freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year, a feat that has

0:38.0

barely been replicated through history. Another thing she did was, I believe she set the

0:42.8

high school 5K record for girls, and she ran 1548, which was a crazy time back in the day.

0:48.5

She then went on to Providence College where she was a two-time NCAA champion, and she also set

0:53.1

a collegiate indoor record for the

0:54.7

woman's 5K with a time of 1512, and now as a professional under Ray Tracy and with New Balance.

1:00.9

She's also done things that I've never been seen in the sport before, including setting

1:04.6

multiple American records, including the American record in the marathon, which stands to this day,

1:09.4

which was 21829, and making Olympic team. She made the Paris Olympic team in the marathon, which stands to this day, which was 21829, and making Olympic

1:12.2

team, she made the Paris Olympic team in the marathon after placing second at the US Olympic

1:16.9

trials in Orlando in February. All this notes in rambling aside because I could spew off

1:21.9

her accomplishments all day. This conversation was absolutely phenomenal and super enjoyable.

1:27.2

We dive into Emily's journey to

1:28.8

get to where she is today, a lot of the learnings and insights on what it takes to be great at the

1:33.4

sport of running and what that journey looks like to get there. We go back in time to her

1:37.3

high school years, her college years, why having fun is such a crucial aspect of the sport,

1:42.0

her ambitions for the future, and so much more.

1:44.4

Guys, if this one impacts you, please share it with a friend, a family member, a teammate,
