5:05 Countering the effects of sugar with the healthiest foods

The average person in the US consumes 67% of their calories in the form of carbohydrates. There are three types of carbohydrates: sugar, fiber, and starch. Starch is often worse than sugar!

There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. It’s often thought that the brain needs glucose, but the brain can also run on ketones. Your body can produce all the glucose you need from non-carbohydrate sources.

Here are 7 foods with no carbs and zero sugar to add to your diet today:

1. Fat

The healthiest choices are butter, ghee, cod liver oil, olive oil, and coconut oil. Fats have zero carbs, so they do not spike insulin. High insulin is behind most chronic illnesses.

2. Meat

Choose high-quality beef, pork, lamb, chicken, or fish for healthy foods with no sugar and no carbs.

3. Organ meats

Meat and organ meat are the most nutrient-dense foods, with virtually no carbs and no sugar.

4. Eggs

Eggs have virtually zero sugar and carbs. Egg yolks contain the active form of vitamin A, choline, B vitamins, trace minerals, and essential nutrients for the eyes.

5. Shellfish

Shellfish contain an insignificant amount of carbs and are packed with nutrients and trace minerals like selenium and zinc.

6. Raw cheese

Raw cheese is an excellent source of protein and contains many important nutrients such as calcium and phosphorus. Sheep or goat cheese is best.

7. Vegetables

Watercress, mushrooms, spinach, arugula, swiss chard, bok choy, kale, zucchini, celery, cucumber, and cauliflower are great options. Vegetables contain a minuscule amount of carbs and will not spike blood sugar. Herbs are also great!

Focusing on incorporating these 7 zero-sugar foods helps support wellness.

An average person in the U.S. consumes 67% of all their calories from carbohydrates.

It's one of the fuels that feeds cancer.

0:19.7

It's important to know what a carb is and what foods have it and what foods don't.

0:22.6

I think the best way to start this out is to really simplify carbohydrates because people get confused.

0:27.6

There are three types of carbohydrates.

0:29.6

We have a sugar carbohydrate, another type of carbohydrate called fiber.

0:33.6

The thing about fiber is the fiber doesn't raise the insulin level.

0:36.6

It doesn't raise your blood sugar.

So the real problem with chronic disease isn't necessarily the fiber. It's the sugar and something else.

0:44.2

It's actually this right here, starch. This is the thing that a lot of people don't understand can be

0:50.5

even worse than sugar because most people are consuming refined starch.

0:55.5

exposed to air.

1:03.4

They have to preserve it.

1:04.2

But there's actually three main bad things in the grains.

1:07.6

Gluten, that's the protein part.

1:09.7

Our bodies don't digest gluten. In fact, it's one of the only proteins that our bodies can't digest. Of course, you have the starch itself and sugar. The next point I want to bring up is the brain. You'll hear this all the time that your brain needs sugar because your brain could only run on glucose. Well, that was the case. We would all be dead long ago. How do you explain all the carnivore people

1:28.4

who seem to be doing very fine? They don't have very many problems. In fact, they're getting rid of
