0:00 Introduction: The best omega-3 for brain health

0:49 Cod liver oil benefits

1:00 DHA and brain health

1:35 What is DHA?

6:23 Omega-3 benefits for immune function

Cod liver oil has historically been used for conditions such as tuberculosis and rickets, and has shown remarkable benefits in preventing deadly infections and supporting wound healing. In the early 1900s, the vast majority of remedies were natural.

Cod liver oil benefits go far beyond its omega-3, vitamin A, and vitamin D content. Check out the following unique properties and benefits of cod liver oil!

1. Cod liver oil matches the brain

The DHA and EPA ratio in cod liver oil closely matches the omega-3 fatty acid ratio in your brain. Cod liver oil is high in DHA, while fish oil is higher in EPA. This is good for inflammation, but DHA is better for the brain, eyes, mitochondria, and immune system. DHA is an essential structural fat in the brain that’s vital for nerve cell function and communication. It also strengthens the membranes of the mitochondria.

2. Alkylglycerol

This compound is not found in fish oil. Alkylglycerol is naturally present in bone marrow and helps regulate the immune system and supports the production of antibodies.

3. Seed oils compete with key fats in cod liver oil

Seed oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids, while cod liver oil is high in omega-3s. The average American consumes 20% to 25% of their calories from seed oils, which build up in the body’s membranes over time. Because these two fats compete, cod liver oil can help mitigate the damage of seed oil consumption.

4. Cardiolipin

This compound helps you make energy, but it’s dependent on DHA.

5. CoQ10

This supports the heart and is a necessary building block for energy.

6. Gut immune system

Vitamin A in cod liver oil can help prevent a leaky gut, and supports the body's internal mucosal layers.

7. Vitamins D & K2

Vitamin D supports immune function and structural calcium for strong bones. Cod liver oil also contains vitamin K2, which protects you from developing too much calcium in the blood.

You can also consume cod liver for all the amazing benefits of cod liver oil.
