So we all know that white Christian nationalism has been on the rise and has been so for

quite some time. And for those of you who are new to the topic, no, this is not some new form of

Christianity. It is quite frankly one of the original forms of American Christianity, one that

is rooted in a racialized view of the world and which intends to really dominate the political reality

under which we all live. There were a few opportunities that I've had recently to speak with

folks who have been studying the movement to ingrain white Christian nationalism even further

in our body politic. And here's that time I interviewed Jack Jenkins about this very subject.

An award-winning journalist and a national

reporter for the Religion News Service. He is someone who has written extensively about religion and

politics, and as he says in his bio, usually both in some sort of intertwined or interconnected

way. And he's also the author of the book American Prophets, the religious roots of progressive

fight for the soul of the country. Jack Jenkins, now, you have been writing about these issues

for a really long time, and I first came to know your work through Twitter, so thank God

for social media. And you've written an article called Why Christian Nationalists Love Trump.

And it was a little while ago earlier on in the Trump administration's tenure.

And I wanted to have you on because I really wanted to get a solid understanding as to what Christian

nationalism is, how it's showing up in our politics, and really giving us some food for thought as to whether or not

we're comfortable with that and whether or not this is something that is going to put the country

on a path forward or something that might lead us somewhere else. And so I'd like to just start
