| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Karen Hunter is awesome. I am Karen Hunter. And today I want to share with you an interview |
| 0:15.7 | that I did, I think it's in 2023, with Dr. Jawanza Kanjufu. I was so, so excited to speak with him because growing up |
| 0:25.8 | in my household, countering the conspiracy to destroy black boys, volumes one, two, and three |
| 0:32.0 | were in my household. And this was before I had a brother. My father had books just littered around the house, books that he studied, books that he read. |
| 0:40.6 | And this was one of them. |
| 0:42.2 | And I remember being impacted by that, just the title alone, the conspiracy to destroy black boys. |
| 0:47.7 | And this man, as an educator, was talking about ways in which the education system classically designed to target, to classify, |
| 0:57.2 | to diminish black boys. And it was an important enough book for my dad to have it even before he |
| 1:02.4 | had a son. And so I think about today education being on the table in terms of it being |
| 1:08.9 | destroyed the education department in the United States of America. |
| 1:11.7 | But even our schools locally, how they perceive our children, who's in the classroom, |
| 1:17.8 | who's teaching, what they're being taught. |
| 1:19.8 | So super important. |
| 1:21.2 | So over the next few days, I want to explore in this podcast, people who, this is their |
| 1:26.0 | life mission. |
| 1:27.1 | The other thing is, he made transition recently. |
| 1:29.7 | And I thought it was important to honor his life by having a conversation and introducing |
| 1:35.2 | those of you who are not familiar with him in all of his books. He made transition April 21st. |
| 1:40.2 | And I just want to say, you lived, you did good things. |
| 1:50.7 | And in many ways, my career because of how my household was run, can be directly tied to the work that you did. |
| 1:55.1 | So rest in power, Dr. Jwanza Kanjufu, and thank you for your work. |
| 1:56.5 | Up next, my interview with him. |
