Summary

Are you carrying the weight of expectations, comparison, or hustle culture—and wondering why it still feels so heavy? You’re not alone.  In this episode, I sit down with author Erica Ligenza Gwynn to talk about the lies we’ve believed for far too long and the freedom that comes when we finally replace them with God’s truth. Together, we unpack common cultural mantras like “If I’m not hustling, I’m lazy” or “My feelings are my truth”—and why they leave us stuck, burned out, and empty. Erica shares how recognizing and rejecting these lies opened the door for her to live with authenticity, purpose, and joy in Christ. If you’ve ever thought, “It’s happening for everyone but me” or “I’m too messy to be loved,” this conversation is for you. You’ll walk away encouraged to spot the subtle lies shaping your story and equipped with biblical truths that offer real freedom. This is a hope-filled, honest chat for any woman ready to stop striving and start living in the unshakable truth of who God says she is. Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of Real Talk with Rachel Autry, where I love to help you delight in life and find joy right where you are. And today I have a friend with me who's doing just that, just battling some truth. And with lies, myths, what's for real, what's not, what's capital T truth, what's lower T truth, which I think especially these days, my mind can get cluttered, online life

0:21.7

can get cluttered, reality and the perception of reality gets cluttered. So it's just two

girls trying to figure out life right alongside you. Hey, Erica, welcome to Real Talk. Hey, girl, hey. Oh my

0:33.9

gosh, thank you for having me. It's been a minute. And I'm so stoked.

0:48.3

So you came on, oh gosh, like two years ago. Tell us all the things. Fill us in like if someone were to have listened to your old show, they might know these things. But tell us just from the

beginning who you are, what life is like these days,

0:54.8

if life has changed since people have listened to the last one, all of it. Oh, girl, life has

0:59.8

sure changed. I couldn't even tell you what year we last chatted in. So I've added at least one more

1:05.4

child since that, I'm sure. So I'm Erica. I am a fellow content creator, podcaster, author, all the fun things, and a mom of two now three, because now I have another one on the way. So I guess I say I'm a mom of three now. So that's so exciting. So fun. And then my second book is coming out in October, which I'm so stoked about.

Okay, tell us about it. Tell us all about. Tell me more. Okay. That's, it's called,

1:33.4

that's just not true. How to replace the lies you didn't know you believed with God's

1:38.5

unchanging truth. And I feel like this is like, I mean, you wrote, you know this because you read it, endorsed it, all that good stuff.

1:47.1

This is like the book for the girls who got sick of it.

1:50.2

Like the girls who were looking around at everything that our culture was saying, at everything that society was saying.

1:57.4

And like we, we knew that it was not it. Something was missing. It was not the full

2:03.6

story. It was not the full picture. It's not the full truth. And we just feel in our guts like,

2:09.0

something's not quite right with that. And I feel like God has something to say about it. That's

2:13.5

probably a little bit different than what everyone is telling me should be the answer

2:17.6

as to why I don't feel great and hunky dory and in love with my life.

2:23.3

So that kind of was the impetus for this book where I was like, hold up, we got to break

2:28.1

down here what's happening because there are some lies that I'm sure we're all familiar

2:33.6

with that are very obvious lies that
