Summary

Newly appointed Judge Kristine Burk's investiture ceremony became unexpectedly tender when her 19-year-old son Tyler took the podium. Moving beyond the usual formal speeches, Tyler crafted an acrostic poem for "JUDGE" that revealed the everyday magic of his mom - from her unshakeable belief in second chances, to her instinct for helping strangers in need, to the joyful warmth she radiates to everyone around her. all came together.

It was a funny, moving ceremony, and by the end there were not many dry eyes in the courtroom.

That said, and without a doubt, the speech that got the strongest

1:28.5

emotional reaction was the one given by my 19-year-old son, Tyler. He intentionally did not

1:34.6

preview the speech with me. His poise and thoughtfulness did not surprise me, but the content

1:39.2

almost made me ugly cry. I contained myself just a tad because I had to follow him with a speech of my own,

1:45.4

which was not an easy feat. So here's Tyler's speech to mark the occasion of his mother,

Christine M. Burke, becoming a judge in the Superior Court of Sonoma County, California.
