Welcome to Off Message. I'm Isaac Dover. Today's guest, Virginia Governor Terry McCalloff,

who has a lot of thoughts about Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party, destabilizing Russians,

treasonous Americans, and what it means to be a

progressive. If you're in New York or Washington or you're a political obsessive, you know who

Terry McAuliffe is. He's Bill Clinton's best friend. He's so close to the Clintons that he had a

pet chicken named Hillary. A chicken actually died right before the election. He replaced it with Hillary Jr.

He was the Democratic National Committee chair almost 20 years ago. He's probably the most

successful political fundraiser in history. Anyone who's been around politics and everyone has a

crazy Terry McCullough story, him at a party, him grabbing you and just being

super enthusiastic or saying something that he shouldn't have said or making a call and just pushing

in every kind of nutty way. But over the course of reporting this, one of the things that I came

across was the opposition research document that the Republicans put together at the

beginning of 2013 when he was running for the second time for governor and ultimately won.

And it points out in there that a lot of Republicans even love him despite the fact that he

drives them crazy.

It was a limitations section.

And it says that beware of all the pals that he has, his golfing buddies and ex-party chairs and all the Republicans who really like him, too.

McCallif was in Virginia on election night. The plan was that he was going to fly to New York

for Hillary Clinton's party. But that got

scrapped when they could see where the results were going. Since then, he's leapt into working on

fundraising for the Democrats redistricting efforts, co-chairing the National Governors Association,

having a run-in with Trump that he's quite proud of. He said to me, I looked him face to face
