Summary

The episode you’ve been waiting for! I’m joined by Lauren Conrad to talk about it all—from the early 2000s chaos of Los Angeles, paparazzi, and filming The Hills, to the quiet, grounded life she’s built in Laguna Beach today.

Lauren opens up about trust, privacy, motherhood, aging, and why the recent reunion felt like the right—and final—way to close the chapter on her TV career. She shares what it was really like surviving intense public scrutiny, finding peace off camera, and why having creative control this time around was a non-negotiable.

We also get into marriage, beauty, turning 40, living without cameras—and of course, I had to ask her if she’ll be voting for Spencer Pratt in the election.

And just a fair warning, there will probably be some oversharing.

0:37.9

Well, I'm so excited you're here. Yeah, thanks for having. Do you come up to L.A. a lot? Not a ton. No? No. I have a couple girlfriends up here that I'll, like, pop up and, like, do a day with, but nothing else really brings me up anymore. So when did you move to Laguna? It's been how many years?

0:46.0

I was pregnant with my son who's eight. Wow. Do you ever miss L.A.? I miss my friends here and I miss the restaurants.

0:52.2

I know. I know. Laguna has good restaurants, though. Does it not? Not as many. There's not as much variety.

1:30.5

Like we have our few favorites that we go to, but I feel like there's like some really amazing restaurants here that I miss. L.A. has good ones. Yeah. What's your favorite? In L.A.? Yeah. Like if you're up here for one night and you're like, okay, I just, I have to go here. I don't have like a usual. I have a couple girlfriends who are like foodies, so I just go wherever they take me and like just make, make a reservation. Yeah. Have you been to Pache? That's like my, no. You haven't been to Pache on Laurel? What is it? Laurel Canyon. Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Forever go. Yes. It's been around forever. I went on a first date with someone there and it was like a funny situation where the waiter came up and he was like so nice to see you again to me and I was like, no, no, first date.

1:29.6

No!

1:30.5

I was like, clearly I was like his date spot. I was like, that's a good date spot. It is. It's cute because they've got that little market next door and you'd like grab a bottle of wine and watch a movie. It was perfect. I've actually been on a bunch of dates there, too.

1:41.2

There you go.

1:41.6

It's your spot.

1:42.2

I hate to say it.

1:43.9

I don't know if it's my spot or it's, I think every guy's spot in LA.

1:47.0

It's a good one.

1:47.7

Yeah. Oh my God. Okay, well, since we're talking about LA, let's talk about like back in the day, graduate high school, you move up to LA, you're filming the hills. I just had this conversation with someone else. The early 2000s, there was nothing like it, right? It was the best. It was so much fun. So much fun. Yeah, you just can't get it back. It was that little window, right? We had like those sidekicks, but we didn't have like real camera phones. And like, I don't know if you remember this. You would go out and like you would see naughtiness. But like just wouldn't happen nowadays. Like there was just, I think, I don't know if you remember this. You would go out and like you would see naughtiness.

2:17.7

I know. It just wouldn't happen nowadays. Like there was just, I think, I don't know. I know. Because well, now you can't do it because you're worried someone's going to take a picture. Of course. Where as soon as you get into the club back in the day, once you pass the paparazzi, you are free. Little animals. It was crazy in there. Yeah, I had a blast. It was so fun. It was so fun. Yeah. Did you date a lot in your early 20s? I mean, as much as you can when you're like working and doing TV. So I did a little bit. Was it always on the hills? Or were you able to try and hide them a lot? But they find out though? They would. And then they would always find out.

2:51.6

And then they would want to put them on the show, wouldn't they?

2:53.1

Yeah.

2:53.7

It would get weird.

2:54.3

It was like a funny thing where like they would immediately go on the show. I felt weird about it because I was like, you know, a lot of people here were like aspiring actors stuff. And I was like, do they just want to be on the show? and then you feel like, I don't know.

3:04.3

I would always try and get to know someone off camera first,

3:06.7

unless I met them on camera,
