0:17.8	Last year was a good year for me photographically. I set out to refine my way of seeing,
0:24.5	composing, and creating photographs. And though I wasn't prolific with my image making,
0:29.9	I was certainly much more intentional. And I saw that reflected in the best photographs that I
0:35.7	created in 2018.
0:38.6	Yet, by the end of the year, I recognized that there was something missing from my work.
0:43.8	I wanted to do more than just produce a single good photograph, so I began working on several
0:51.2	personal projects that are less about making a nice looking photograph
0:56.2	and more about telling stories, some of which are very personal ones.
1:03.0	When I saw that my friend and fellow photographer Valerie Zadhan was doing very much the same thing
1:08.9	with her series on artists.
1:11.5	I immediately wanted to sit down and talk with her
1:14.5	and find out how someone who is known as a street and travel photographer
1:19.2	began this series of environmental portraits.
1:24.1	And that's when I thought about this project, the artist and the space.
1:27.7	It's not about the art itself.
1:29.1	It's about the person and their space.
1:32.6	I started talking with a painter named Carl.
1:35.4	I would love to be able to paint and draw like they do.
1:38.2	So I'm always so excited to meet those people.
1:41.1	And then they introduced me to a glass artist from England upstairs.
1:44.2	So I was like, whoa, this is what I want to do, but I want to do it now.
