This is the body in X, and this is the candid frame. I've been thinking a lot about why I make photographs. It's a question

0:24.9

I posed to myself, especially during those periods when I'm feeling stuck or stagnant. It's not

0:32.2

about my not making pictures or even about not making enough photographs, but instead why it's so important

0:40.9

for me to do what I do. Because when I'm out there endlessly repeating myself and feeling

0:48.1

frustrated as a result, the answer to the question of why is an important one for me to answer. And sometimes the answer

0:58.2

to that question arrives not when I'm making photographs, but when I have the chance to sit down

1:04.8

with another creative, a photographer, a writer, or a painter, and we have the opportunity to not only discuss what we do,

1:13.9

but why we do it. Such conversations have been incredibly enlightening for me, and have had a big

1:21.6

1:32.5

Though some of you may know Yens from his street photography work or as host of the Fujilev podcast,

1:39.2

what I enjoy most about him is his thoughtful approach to being creative.

1:52.3

He is a photographer who sees photography not merely as a way to feed one's ego with likes and thumbs up, but as the means to express something about himself and the people he comes into

1:58.4

contact with because of his camera.

2:01.6

I like the fact that this has to do with interest in people, and interest in life.

2:07.6

And the interesting thing is you can do it anywhere you are.

2:11.6

Like it really requires little kind of a material or little financial effort.

2:17.9

As long as you have the time and you have the interest, you can do it.

2:23.2

I mean, and I'm fascinated in people, no matter if I go to Bucharest or if I go to Amsterdam

2:29.8

or to Istanbul, you'll figure that people are all very similar no matter where you go.

2:36.0

And then it's just very fascinating to go deeper.

2:39.0

I especially enjoy staying in a place for a week or two to get to know it even better.

2:43.0

Like I'm almost trying to become kind of a local and to get knowledge by walking around with my camera.
