0:11.0	That's the voice of Norbert Wiener, from a lecture recorded in October of 1950 at the New York Academy of Medicine.
0:18.0	Wiener was a noted mathematician and the father of the field of cybernetics, which essentially studies how humans and machines interact.
0:25.0	And he's talking here about the risks of automation.
0:28.0	We shall have to realize that while we may make the machines our gods and sacrifice mental machines, we do not have to do so.
0:40.0	And if we do so, we deserve the punishment of idolaters.
0:48.0	It's been more than 70 years since Wiener's cautionary lecture, but his words are more prescient than ever.

1:25.0	There are huge benefits to humanity that can come and we'll discuss some of those.
1:29.0	But we also see that as companies race to develop the best synthetic relationships, we are setting ourselves up for a new generation of harms made exponentially worse by this new powerful technology.
1:40.0	It's obvious we're going to need to steward these tools ethically and responsibly.
1:44.0	So we're also going to share our ideas for a framework for AI's that will help technology be more human, not less.
1:51.0	Because as Norbert Wiener said, while we may make our machines our gods and sacrifice men to machines, we do not have to do so.
1:59.0	We are the ones who decided what it will mean to be human going forward and what it means to be a machine.
