You'll walk away with simple and tangible tips and tricks that allow you to live your healthiest life so you can pursue your dreams,

0:23.9

overcome obstacles, and leave your mark.

0:27.4

And so talk to us about calories in, calories out, and what's your kind of understanding of the science?

0:36.2

Like, you know, is a gram of high fructose corn syrup

0:40.0

the same as a gram of, you know, honey or whatever? Just what is your opinion of calories

0:46.0

and calories out? So I think that's the foundation of weight loss. You know, it's carbon in,

0:50.4

carbon out. The lungs are the primary excretory organ of fat, and so you're actually breathing

0:55.2

out fat. And so as long as you're consuming an adequate amount of calories and then exercising,

1:01.9

a lot of my clients, especially women, we actually increase their calories because they're

1:05.6

under-eating. But those numbers can be calculated. Ultimately, your body is a chemistry equation,

1:11.8

not a math equation.

1:17.1

So you really have to consider, okay, yes, we have your calories and your macros down. Yes, we have your exercise down. But then how is your body hormonally responding to those things? How are you

1:21.5

digesting and absorbing it in the gut? Because even the kind of bacteria in your gut can

1:26.3

determine the calories you extract from your food.

1:29.4

So if you have certain types of bacteria, you can actually extract more calories from your food

1:33.6

and vice versa. I'm sure you've seen the study with the obese mice and the skinny mice,

1:37.7

they switched their stools out and the fat mouse got skinny and the skinny mouse got fat just

1:42.3

from the bacteria in their gut. So it really

1:44.6

comes down to like the individual chemistry. Ultimately there has to be a calorie deficit, but at the

1:49.9

same time you can increase that metabolic rate by gaining muscle mass. So if you're gaining muscle mass,

1:55.7

you can then maybe eat more as opposed to just chronically dieting like a lot of people do.
