During season one, we read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. From now until September, we'll be

exploring Jane Eyre in once-a-week episodes, which will drop on Mondays, sort of like a college

class, only fun. If this doesn't sound like your thing,

don't worry. Storytime will be back with a new book in September. But for now,

brew a pot of tea, find a cozy chair, and settle in. Class is in session. Hello, welcome back.

You know, right now it doesn't feel very summary to me.

I'm recording this at night.

My children are asleep and my husband has gone out.

It's quiet.

And there's a sort of gentle rain falling outside.

So it doesn't feel very summary, but it definitely feels a little bit gothic.

And so I feel like it's a good time to be talking about Jane Eyre.

So I'm so glad to be here with you. And I'm really excited about this episode. I feel like we have a lot to discuss today.

And I'm glad to get started. Thank you, as always, for all of your letters. I got so many

lovely letters about Charlotte Bronte, and I just kept thinking,

you know, if only she could know that in the year, 2004, people are still thinking about her

and talking about her and loving the work that she wrote, the thing that she created, which

was so important to her.

So I'm so happy to be a part of that with you. And it makes me,

it makes me glad to think about that because she, you know, like I said last week, she was kind of a

tragic figure. And I'm sure she didn't imagine that people this far in the future would be
