Niger, West Africa. The headlines tell a story. West Africa's Iqawas rejects Niger's

hauntas proposed three-year delay for elections. Headline Bloomberg, nobody wants to go to

war over Niger, crisis Iqawas envoys says. Headline AP, the Africa Union suspends Niger

until, quote, the effective restoration of constitutional order. Headline, why a block

of West African countries is threatening to invade Niger. And US News and World Report,

France denies report it asked Algeria to use airspace for a Niger operation. You will

recall that Niger is a Franco-file country once upon a time part of the French Empire.

I welcome Gregory Kaplay, editor and publisher of Defense and Foreign Affairs. When last

we spoke, it was the early stages of the change of leadership. The president was contained

in a safe room, and the army was in charge a series of what were told were accidental

decisions made. One, the head of the presidential guard didn't want to be fired. Two, the

presidential guard scared the president into the safe room. Three, the army emerged as the

power and an army general Chiani emerged as the leader of the country. Four, Iqawas met

an emergency session, resolved nothing, and then Iqawas' military leadership met in

an emergency session, and resolved nothing. There we are. Gregory, a very good evening

to you. Niger is a uranium-rich, and more to the point, it's in the middle of a series

of coups by military forces overthrowing elected governments, Burkina Faso and Maliere,

to at hand. Your measure of how this is going is being managed by Iqawas effectively, or

is there a hesitancy that is also echoed in the African Union? Good evening to you.
