Summary

Today we’re talking with two people with unique perspectives on what life can look like during and after menopause, or after life-changing events like when children leave the nest. Dr. Kyrin Dunston shares why it’s imperative that menopausal women explore their options and gain the confidence to ask the right questions. She discusses how we can stop the ’menopause madness,’ and go through menopause with ease. Dr. Dunston is the host of the Stop the Menopause Madness Summit where top experts share strategies to help them lose weight, feel sexy, balance mood and master midlife. Dr. Elmore will be one of those experts at the Summit this year! Then, we’ll hear from Dawn Berry, who is a certified life coach and works with empty nesters to help them find an identity after their children have moved out. Dawn is passionate about this because when her daughter moved out, she had her own difficult adjustment period. She encourages people to find their power, confidence and purpose for their new life. Welcome everybody to today's episode of the Lindsay Elmore Show. Today we are talking all about

0:06.2

how to live a happy and productive life as we get older. Menopause is first up on the agenda.

0:15.5

And menopause is the permanent cessation of the mencies for more than 12 months. And it results from an estrogen

0:23.4

deficiency and is not associated with any kind of pathology. The problem is there is a cultural

0:33.2

construct around the idea of menopause and around aging that we are no longer as valuable as

0:42.2

we once were after we go through menopause. This is simply not true. Menopause is something

0:51.0

that happens to all women at some point in their life with the average woman going

0:56.1

through menopause around the age of 51. As I said, most of the symptoms are related to estrogen

1:02.7

deficiency. Vesomotor symptoms such as hot flashes are predicted to occur within approximately

1:08.6

75% of women. 60% of women experience urogenital symptoms such as vaginal atrophy, urethro atrophy,

1:17.8

and sexual dysfunction.

1:19.5

There are also psychogenic symptoms that can happen with 45% of women experiencing

1:25.2

psychogenic symptoms such as anger and irritability, anxiety and tension,

1:31.6

depression, sleep disturbances, etc. But there's a subset of women who simply ease their way

1:39.9

through menopause. If you think about it, if only 45% of women experience loss of concentration

1:46.0

and 60% experience that stress incontinence and the frequency and the urgency, and only 75% of

1:53.5

women experience hot flashes or migraine, there's a subset of women who glide through menopause

2:00.2

with ease. And today, we are going to be talking with two

2:04.6

people with very different perspectives on what life can look like after we go through menopause

2:12.2

or after our children have left the nest, et cetera. First up, I will be talking to Dr. Kieran Dunstan about how we can stop the menopause

2:22.3

madness and go through menopause with ease.

2:27.1

After that, I talk with Don Barry, who is a certified life coach who works with empty nesters
